Bosch Power Tool Dust Collection: Ports, Hoses, and Adapters

Bosch tools use a port standard that differs from both Milwaukee and Makita. Here is what you need to connect any Bosch tool to a shop vac or dust extractor.

Bosch uses its own port size on most of its portable power tools. It sits between the size Milwaukee and DeWalt use and the size Makita uses, which is why neither of their adapters seats properly. The Bosch tools that land on it are listed on the 35mm port hub.

That size is one of the most common European metric tool ports. You see it on Bosch, Metabo, Hitachi (Metabo HPT) and many corded European tools. If you own any of those brands, one adapter often covers all of them.

All six land on the 35mm port hub. One adapter covers the whole list.

Bosch to Standard Shop Vac

A standard 1-1/4 inch small shop vac hose has an OD of about 32mm. That is too small to seat in the Bosch port. A step-down adapter takes the port to the hose end. It seats in the Bosch port on one end and grips the hose on the other.

If your shop vac uses a 1-7/8 inch hose (48mm OD), you need a 35mm-to-48mm adapter. This is a step-up that allows the larger hose to connect to the smaller tool port without leaking air.

Bosch to Festool CT Extractor

The Festool CT hose is 27mm. The Bosch port is bigger, so the adapter steps down to meet it. This is a common cross-brand setup: Festool extractors are popular and plenty of shops run Bosch tools.

Performance with a Festool CT MIDI connected to a Bosch tool is very good. The CT MIDI provides enough suction through the 27mm hose for sanding, routing, and circular saw work.

Bosch Dust Extractors

Bosch also makes their own dust extractors in the VAC series. These use a 35mm hose that matches the tool ports directly. If you use Bosch extractors with Bosch tools, no adapters are needed.

The Bosch VAC090A and CORE18V VAC14 are the most popular Bosch extractors in the US. Both use 35mm hose ends, which drop straight onto the Bosch tools listed on the 35mm port hub.

Connecting Bosch to a Central Dust Collector

If you have a fixed dust collection system with 4-inch duct, you need to step down from 4 inches (100mm) to 35mm. This is a large reduction. The best approach is to run a 4-to-2.5-inch reducer at the duct drop, then a flexible 2.5-inch shop vac hose to the tool with a 63mm-to-35mm adapter at the tool end.

Metabo and Metabo HPT (Hitachi)

Metabo and Metabo HPT sit on the same port standard as Bosch on most models. The adapters that work for Bosch tools work for Metabo tools. In a mixed shop, one set covers both brands.
