Makita picked its own port size for most LXT cordless tools. It is bigger than the one Milwaukee and DeWalt use, and that gap is the whole problem. Every tool that lands on it is listed on the 36mm port hub.
The gap is small. It is still enough that a standard 1-1/4 inch shop vac hose end does not grip the Makita port. It wiggles and leaks air. You need an adapter built for the tool on one end and your hose on the other.
Common Makita LXT Tools and Their Dust Ports
| Tool | Model Series |
|---|---|
| Circular Saw (6-1/2") | XSS02, XSH06 |
| Jig Saw | XVJ02, XVJ03 |
| Random Orbit Sander | XOB01, XOB06 |
| Oscillating Multi-Tool | XMT03, XMT04 |
| Compact Router | XTR01 |
| Plunge Router | XRJ01 |
All six share one port. The size is on the 36mm port hub, along with every other tool we cover at that size.
Makita vs. Standard Shop Vac Hose
The end of a standard small shop vac hose is about 32mm OD. It is too small to grip the Makita port. The fix is a short step-up adapter that starts at the tool and ends at the hose. It bridges the gap and grips at both ends.
If your shop vac uses a larger 1-7/8 inch hose (about 48mm OD), you need a different adapter. It grips the tool on one end and the 48mm hose on the other. This is a simple straight connector.
Makita to Festool CT Extractor
The Festool CT hose is 27mm. The Makita port is bigger, so the adapter steps down to meet it. The inside is slightly tapered to keep the airflow smooth.
Performance note: stepping the Makita port down to the 27mm Festool hose does cut airflow slightly. For sanding, this is not noticeable. For circular saw cutting, you may see slightly less chip capture than with a larger hose.
Makita Corded Tools
Many Makita corded tools use the same port as their LXT counterparts. Corded circular saws, jigsaws and random orbit sanders from Makita are consistent that way, and they show up on the same hub.
Some older Makita corded tools (pre-2010) landed one size down, on the 35mm port hub. The gap is small enough that one adapter often covers both. Tell us the model and we send the one built for it.
Makita Track Saw
The Makita SP6000 and XPS01 track saws have a dedicated dust extraction port on the blade housing. It takes the included dust bag or a vacuum hose. Track saws are their own case, so do not go by the sizes on the rest of this page. Tell us which saw you own and we build the adapter that fits it.
How to Pick Your Adapter
Three questions narrow it down:
- Which Makita tool do you own?
- What vacuum are you connecting to? (Shop vac, dust extractor, central system)
- What is the OD of your vacuum hose end?
Answer those three and our configurator picks the right adapter instantly.
