Adapter sizing is the most common source of confusion in dust collection. There are four main tool port sizes and three main shop vac hose sizes. The adapter you need depends on which combination you have.
This guide covers every common combination. Find your tool port size on the left and your shop vac hose size at the top.
Find Your Tool's Dust Port
- The 27mm port hub: Festool tools (all models)
- The 1-1/4 in. port hub: Milwaukee M18, DeWalt 20V MAX, Ryobi ONE+, Ridgid 18V, Black+Decker 20V, Craftsman V20, Porter-Cable 20V, BAUER 20V
- The 35mm port hub: Bosch 18V CORE, Bosch PROFACTOR, Metabo HPT
- The 36mm port hub: Makita LXT 18V, Makita XGT 40V
Shop Vac Hose Sizes
- 1-1/4 inch (31.75mm ID), DeWalt DCV517B, some Ridgid compact vacs

Tool end to 47.6mm, a 1-7/8 inch shop vac: works for the Makita LXT 18V and XGT 40V tools on the 36mm port hub.
Tool end to 47.6mm, a 1-7/8 inch shop vac: works for the Bosch 18V CORE, PROFACTOR and Metabo HPT tools on the 35mm port hub.
Tool end to 47.6mm, a 1-7/8 inch shop vac: works for the Festool tools on the 27mm port hub. Use it if you own Festool tools but not a Festool CT extractor.
Connecting Miter Saws and Table Saws
Miter saws and table saws have larger ports. For these you need a reducer, not an adapter that expands:
Saw end to 47.6mm, a 1-7/8 inch shop vac: works for any miter saw or table saw on the 2-1/2 in. port hub.
63.5mm to 57.15mm (2-1/2 inch to 2-1/2 inch shop vac): If your shop vac uses a 2-1/2 inch hose (typically 16-gallon and larger), you can connect the miter saw port directly with no reducer. Start with your vac hose inner diameter.
Connecting a Tool to a Festool CT Extractor
If you want to run non-Festool tools through a Festool CT extractor:
- Milwaukee or DeWalt tool to a Festool CT (27mm hose): 32mm to 27mm adapter
- Makita tool to a Festool CT (27mm hose): 36mm to 27mm adapter
- Bosch tool to a Festool CT (27mm hose): 35mm to 27mm adapter
This combination is popular among woodworkers who own non-Festool tools but want Festool HEPA extraction quality.
