Ridgid makes some of the most popular shop vacs in North America. The WD and HD series are in millions of garages and job sites. If you have a Ridgid shop vac and power tools from Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, or Bosch, you need adapters to connect them cleanly.
Here is the complete guide to Ridgid shop vac hose sizes and how to match them to every major tool port.
Ridgid Shop Vac Hose Sizes
Ridgid uses three hose diameters across their product line:
| Model Series | Hose Size | Hose OD at Tool End |
|---|---|---|
| WD4050 (4 gal), WD0671 (6 gal) | 1-7/8 inch | 48mm |
| HD0900 (9 gal), WD1450 (14 gal) | 1-7/8 inch | 48mm |
| WD16 (16 gal) and larger | 2-1/2 inch | 63mm |
| Ridgid OCTANE (portable) | 1-1/4 inch | 32mm |
The 1-7/8 inch hose is the standard for most mid-size Ridgid models. The tool-end of this hose is about 48mm OD. Most power tool ports are 32mm to 36mm ID. These do not match, which is why an adapter is needed.
Connecting Ridgid to Milwaukee M18 Tools
Milwaukee M18 FUEL tools have a 32mm (1-1/4 inch) dust port. Your Ridgid 1-7/8 inch hose end is 48mm OD. The 48mm hose end is too large to fit in the 32mm Milwaukee port.
What you need: a 32mm-to-48mm step-up adapter. This fits in the Milwaukee port (32mm ID) and accepts the Ridgid hose end (48mm OD). Both ends fit snug with no air leaks.
Connecting Ridgid to DeWalt 20V MAX Tools
DeWalt 20V MAX hand tools also use a 32mm port. Same situation as Milwaukee. Use a 32mm-to-48mm adapter to connect your Ridgid 1-7/8 inch hose to any DeWalt 20V MAX circular saw, sander, jigsaw, or router.
Connecting Ridgid to Makita LXT Tools
Makita LXT tools use a 36mm port. Your Ridgid 1-7/8 inch hose is 48mm OD. The 36mm Makita port is slightly larger than the Milwaukee and DeWalt ports, but still smaller than the Ridgid hose end.
What you need: a 36mm-to-48mm adapter. This seats in the Makita port (36mm ID) and receives the Ridgid hose (48mm OD).
Connecting Ridgid to Bosch and Metabo HPT Tools
Bosch and Metabo HPT use a 35mm port. Same general solution: a 35mm-to-48mm adapter connects your Ridgid hose to any Bosch or Metabo HPT tool.
Connecting Ridgid to Festool Tools
Festool tools use a 27mm port. This is the smallest common tool port. Your Ridgid 1-7/8 inch hose end (48mm OD) is much too large for the 27mm Festool port. A 27mm-to-48mm adapter has a narrow end that fits in the Festool port and a larger end that receives the Ridgid hose.
Note: connecting a non-HEPA Ridgid shop vac to Festool tools means fine dust can pass through the Ridgid filter. Festool recommends using their own extractors for Class M or H work. If you use a Ridgid vac for regular sanding, add a HEPA filter bag to the Ridgid unit.
Ridgid Shop Vac Filters
Ridgid shop vacs come with two filter types: the cartridge filter (round, dry use) and the foam filter (wet/dry use). For dust collection from power tools:
- Remove the foam sleeve when doing dry dust work. The foam restricts airflow and is not needed for sawdust.
- Use the cartridge filter only for dry work. Water destroys the paper cartridge.
- Add a HEPA filter bag for fine dust from sanders and routers.
Ridgid model VF5000 is a HEPA fine dust filter replacement that fits several Ridgid shop vac models. It is a direct upgrade over the standard cartridge for shops where sanding is common.
