Every 38.1mm (1-1/2 Inch) Dust Port DeWalt Miter Saw and the Right Vacuum Adapter

34.9mm inner38.1mm outer1-1/2 in.3 tools

DeWalt uses one dust duct on its miter saws. DeWalt says a 1-1/2 inch hose fits over the outside of that duct. 1-1/2 inch is 38.1mm, so that is the number you see on listings.

The inside of the same duct is 1-3/8 inch, which is 34.9mm. That is the part our adapter goes into. One duct, two numbers, and they are easy to mix up.

Miter saws throw a lot of dust. The factory dust bag catches some, but not much. Most people want to hook the saw to a shop vac or dust extractor to grab more of it.

A GulpDust PETG adapter goes into the saw duct on one end and takes your vac hose on the other. No tape. No clamps. Below is every DeWalt miter saw we track on this duct.

The Adapter That Fits a 38.1mm Port

Each adapter grips the 34.9mm inside of the tool port on one end and steps it to your shop vac or dust extractor hose on the other end. Friction fit, no clamps. Made in the USA.

38.1mm (1-1/2 Inch) Dust Port Size: The DeWalt Miter Saw Duct

DeWalt puts one standard duct on its miter saws. On its own support site DeWalt says a 1-1/2 inch hose fits over the outside of that duct, and a 1-1/4 inch hose fits inside it. So 38.1mm is the outside and 34.9mm is the inside.

That matters when you buy a part. A hose that clamps over the duct is sized to 38.1mm. A plug that goes into the duct is sized to 34.9mm. They are not the same part and they do not swap.

DeWalt uses this duct on its big miter saws, like the DWS779 and DWS780 12 inch saws and the DWS713 10 inch saw. The duct sits at the rear of the saw, behind the blade.

A GulpDust adapter is printed to go into the 34.9mm inside of the duct on one end and take your shop vac hose on the other end. That gives you a snug fit so the saw pulls dust straight into the vac instead of all over the floor.

How to Connect a Shop Vac to a DeWalt Miter Saw

First, take off the factory dust bag. Look at the round duct behind the blade. Wipe out any dust so the adapter seats clean.

Push the tool end of the PETG adapter into the duct. It is a friction fit, so it holds with a firm push. Then press your shop vac hose onto the other end.

Turn the vac on before you cut. Miter saws fling fine dust into the air with each cut. A shop vac at the duct grabs much more of it than the bag does.

Best Vacuum Setup for a 12 Inch Miter Saw

A miter saw makes a lot of dust fast. A shop vac with good airflow keeps up better than a small one.

A vac with an auto-start outlet is handy. It turns on when the saw turns on, so you never forget. If you cut a lot, add a cyclone separator so the heavy chips drop into a bucket and your vac filter stays clean longer.

No dust setup catches every bit from a miter saw, since the blade is open. But a vac at the duct plus a hood behind the saw makes a big difference.

38.1mm Dust Port FAQ

Which DeWalt miter saws use a 38.1mm dust port?

The DeWalt DWS779 and DWS780 12 inch sliding miter saws and the DWS713 10 inch miter saw all use DeWalt's standard duct. It is 38.1mm across the outside and 34.9mm across the inside.

Is 38.1mm the inside or the outside of the duct?

The outside. DeWalt says a 1-1/2 inch hose fits over the outside of the duct, and 1-1/2 inch is 38.1mm. The inside is 1-3/8 inch, which is 34.9mm. Our adapter is sized to the inside.

Is 38.1mm the same as 1-1/2 inch?

Yes. 38.1mm is the metric value for 1-1/2 inch. You may see the duct listed either way. They are the same size.

Can I connect a shop vac to a DeWalt miter saw?

Yes, with an adapter. Take off the dust bag, then push the GulpDust PETG adapter into the duct and press your shop vac hose onto the other end. A vac grabs much more dust than the bag.

Do I need clamps or tape for the adapter?

No. The adapter is a friction fit. You push the tool end into the duct and it holds. The vac hose end works the same way.

Will a shop vac catch all the dust from a miter saw?

No setup catches every bit, because the blade is open to the air. But a shop vac at the duct grabs far more than the factory bag. Add a hood behind the saw for even better capture.

Do you sell the design file?

No. We sell the finished part. Each adapter is printed to order in PETG and ships from the US.
